About the banner image. The people shown in the banner image are scrambling along the top of what is now a rather large and slippery rock. It is located in Athens, Greece and is named the Areopagos, Aries’ Hill. Aries was the Greek god of war. In ancient times, murderers were tried on the Areopagos. Aries, though a god, was the first tried there, for killing Halirrhothius, a mortal son of the god Poseidon. Halirrhothius had raped Alcippe, daughter of Ares. Poseidon brought the charge against Ares, but he was acquitted. The city in the background is, of course, Athens. The picture was taken on October 3, 2009 on the way down from visiting the Akropolis.
